FOFF FEST 2010 DETAILS:
Concerts in the UU Dome (Unitarian Universalist Church of Tampa Concert Series) is teaming up with Friends of Florida Folk, Inc, (FOFF - a 501c3, not for profit organization ), to present a Saturday Afternoon & Evening In-Door Folk Festival which is dubbed FOFF FEST 2010. It starts at 3pm and will end at approximately 9:30 pm. It is an in-door music extravaganza & will take place rain or shine.
WHAT IS FOLK MUSIC? For the purposes of FOFF Fest 2010 "folk" has an extremely wide & diverse definition: traditional folk; contemporary singer-songwriter, gospel, old timey, bluegrass, country, Americana, acoustic blues, roots, you name it.
FOFF FEST 2010 will run from 3 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. Things kick off at 3pm with three featured acts who will each perform approx 45 minute sets: Amy Carol Webb, Jubals Kin, Elan Chalford & Pete Gallagher. After the featured sets, there will be multiple "fast pitch" showcases, each lasting 12 minutes. The showcases are designed to give the audience a glipse of the amazing folk/roots/Americana talent which is out there amongst us to be enjoyed and treasured. (Think - A folk version of American Idol - except all these musicians are WINNERS! Nobody gets voted off.)
AUDIENCE COMFORT: Refreshments/snacks/drinks/food will be available. There will be adequate breaks to give everyone a chance to stretch and move about. Also - the UU Dome is located in a nice wooded area. There's plenty of outdoor space so that if one so chooses, he/she can take an outdoors break and enjoy the grounds.

Award winning singer-songwriter Keith Hope is a sixth generation Floridian whose ancestors settled in what is now Hernando County in 1835. Keith grew up in Hardee County and started playing music in public at age five. In 2002 he recorded an album of original songs about Florida titled Key Biscayne Cowboy. One of the songs, "Miss Her Now (Or Miss Her Forever)," is about manatees and was inspired by a Florida Department of Environmental Protection poster of the same title. With his Florida compositions Keith is very adept at conjuring up images of mangroves, rivers, creeks and Florida wildlife. He presents his listeners with a musical tour of his beautiful and beloved homeland. And the listeners are always delighted to be a part of the tour.

Violinist, vocalist, and songwriter Rebecca Zapen who now resides in the Tampa Bay area was named Jacksonville's Musician of the Year 2008. In 2009 she won Best Album & Song (cabaret genre) in the Just Plain Folks Awards, She has performed on recordings for soundtracks, television, public radio, theme parks, and various musical groups. Her music has also been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered: Open Mic. Past performances include Florida Folk Fest, Gamble Rogers Fest, Jacksonville Jazz Fest, and venues such as Hotel Cafe (L.A.), The Bitter End (NYC), and Paganini Auditorium (Italy).

Hannah's Whirl is Paul Arnone & Tami Wingard - both Florida natives. Paul and Tammy both sing and make beautiful music together. Paul is a guitarist and songwriter. Tami plays harmonica, mandolin and clarinet. Paul's songwriting captures slices of life, ie, the decisive moment, the fleeting emotion, the passing thought. Sunset Bridge was founded in 2006 by Gracie Grieshop. It is an all original Folk, Alternative-Country band based out of Tampa. Its regular members are: GRACIE GRIESHOP on vocals and acoustic guitar. ( It took years for Gracie to realize that playing and writing music was what fed her soul and perhaps, one day, her pocket book; and that capturing the most memorable moments into a song is forever.) AL MORGAN on acoustic and electric guitar. ( AL loves to play guitar. He truly believes that people who enjoy music together can sometimes be a very cosmic and beautiful experience.) A.J. John French (Eustis area) Born in Kentucky, raised in Texas and Tennessee and currently living in Eustis,
John has lived in small towns all across the south and often writes about those influences in his music. At age 13 he started writing lyrics and later began playing guitar. He co-wrote one of the songs on the rockabilly band, the V-roys, debut release in 1996 which was co-produced by Steve Earle on E-squared records. John intends to release one or more CDs in 2010. As well as performing solo, John is often joined in live performances with his good friends Joe Ramirez on the acoustic 5 string bass guitar and Sean Curran on fiddle and mandolin.

Carl Wade & Something Special is: CARL on guitar and vocals. BARBARA SHAFFER on guitar and vocals. RICK KENNEDY on bass. CW&SS is a West Central Florida based acoustic music group. Malcolm McKinney composes and performs acoustic music in the folk/country genre, including several award-winning songs about Florida (Will McLean Festival songwriting contest: 2004 & 2009 Top Ten Non-Cash winners “We Won’t Hear The Everglades Cry" and “Mighty Big Blow Tonight" respectively. 2008 Second Place for “The Ghosts of Flagler’s Train.” ) Malcolm has been writing and performing since 1964 and was once a member of the band Sugar Creek with Jonathan Edwards and Joe Dolce. In the 70s Malcolm performed solo and with his brother Todd in the New England area. In the early 1980s he worked in Nashville with a small publishing company . Since 1987 he has been living and performing in Florida. Per Robert S. Koppelman, Author of Sing Out, Warning! Sing Out Love The Writings of Lee Hays, in commenting about Malcolm's CD "The High Cost of Living:" " [It] is political enough to expose deep wounds, and musical enough to not only inspire, but to heal.”

LARRY MANGUM, who lives in Jacksonville and has been in Florida since 1970, has logged nearly 3000 performances over the last four decades as a folk, rock, country and Americana artist. Larry's song "Ain't It Great To Be Alive & Be In Florida" has been a feature at the Florida Folk Festival and has been performed by many of his fellow performers. It has also been the "fight" song for the Florida Jaycees for the last two decades. His original music is influenced by legendary musical heroes such as Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys, Hank Williams Sr., Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine and others. Larry's concert appearances with music legends are too many to mention but some highlights include the late Waylon Jennings, The Texas Playboys, Billy Joe Shaver, Vassar Clements, Ray Price, and Roger McGuinn. After years of high quality performances at festivals, country clubs, fairs and honky tonks, Larry Mangum has become one of the premiere performers in North Florida and South Georgia.

Ishmael Katz (Sarasota area) www.ishmaelkatz.com
Ishmael lives in Sarasota where he pursues a career in music, both performing and teaching. His instruments include guitar and mandolin. The gifted presentation of his music, along with his skillful weaving of tunes, bring his voice to the foreground. He has studied Delta and Piedmont Blues/Ragtime at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, West Virginia with the likes of Paul Geremia, Pat Donahue, Del Rey, and David Jacobs-Strain, among others. His early songs were often about the equality of all people and political in nature. These are themes that continue to be important to him. He has performed at festivals and various venues around the state for many years, sometime solo and sometimes with the Jigsaw Jugband. He has also performed original songs on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," on WMNF Radio in Tampa, and WSLR Community Radio in Sarasota.

Linda Darlin and the Literate League (Tampa Bay area)
LD&TLL is a three piece trio (mandolin, guitar, bass) based in the Tampa Bay area. Its members are: LINDA DARLIN, a local singer songwriter who is accomplished on mandolin, guitar, and keyboards. Her current single "A Love Like You" is getting airplay on WMNF. NORMAN S. ROCKWELL, a local guitar instructor with decades of studio and touring experience, including having served as Melanie's touring guitarist. Russ B ROUSH who has decades of studio and touring experience, including opening for Kris Kristofferson, Kansas, Wishbone Ash and others. LD&TLL repertoire includes great originals and crowd-pleasing covers.

Triad & Friends will do the Grand Finale.. (Tampa Bay/Sarasota area)
Triad is Doug Purcell (lead vocals/guitar), Carl Wade & Barbara Shaffer (vocals, guitar, mandolin). Although Triad and Doug are relatively new to the Florida Folk scene, word is getting out as to Doug's rich vocals, the trio's close harmonies, and their subsequent, sweet, pleasing sound. Doug is Triad's leader. He is also FOFF's leader, currently serving as President and bringing with him extensive experience in the field of the performing arts. Triad's first recording, “Hold Back The Waters,” is expected to soon be released. Triad's fans are anxiously awaiting.
